Dino Trivia and Pizza Friday, June 19 5:30–7:00 PM Grade K to Adult Rawr you ready for dinosaur trivia?! Test your dino knowledge at this kids & teens versus adults trivia program. Pizza provided. JULY Growing Up in the Milky Way: The Story of the Earth Planetarium Show with Astrophysicist and Professor Dan Homan Sunday, July 12 2–3:00 PM & 3:15–4:15 PM Rising Grade 3 to Adult The Earth is nearly five billion years old, but our galaxy and the broader universe are far older. What clues do we have about how the Earth formed? What came before? Join Astrophysicist and Professor Dan Homan in Denison’s state-of-the-art Marilyn P. McConnell Planetarium for the story of our planet growing up in the Milky Way. Registration Required; register each person individually. Plant a Garden Thursday, June 4 1:30–2:15 PM All Kids Fill the Children’s patio pots with flowers, then help keep them watered all summer. Tween Scavenger Hunt: LEGO Dino Dash Friday, June 5 6–7:30 PM Rising Grades 6 & 7 It’s a dino egg hunt! Clues hidden in eggs will lead to the location of a LEGO set. Be the first team to assemble your set to win! Only participants will be allowed in the building for this after-hours drop-off program. We’ll start in Granville and tunnel through the Earth, ending up in the Indian Ocean on the opposite side of the planet. Observe dinosaurs in their natural habitats, and let your imagination run wild as you build your own dinosaur. Craft detailed habitats for your prehistoric friends! 13 Ceramic Workshop for Teens: Turtle Planters with Markgraf Clayworks Thursday, June 25 6:30–8:30 PM We will be using a slab technique to create fun and whimsical turtle planters. We’ll add textures using stamps, texture rolling pins, and natural objects to the body (or shell). Projects will be picked up from the library when the firing processes are completed. JULY Crochet-a-Long: Dinosaur Tuesday, July 7 6–8:00 PM You provide the size 4mm/G crochet hook; we’ll provide the rest! Previous crochet experience required. Deserted Island Escape Room Thursday, July 23 6–7:30 PM Your ship sank during a violent storm and you’ve washed up on a deserted island with nothing but debris from the wreck. Somewhere on this island is a way to escape. Solve the puzzles to escape the island! Puzzle Race Friday, July 24 6–7:30 PM The last piece of the puzzle to wrap up a fun summer library program? A puzzle race! Teams race to complete a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle first. Form a team of 3–6 people. Only one person needs to register for the entire team. Team members must arrive by 6:00 PM. JUNE The Reporting Project and the Future of Local News with Jack Shuler and Julia Lerner Wednesday, June 3 7–8:00 PM The Reporting Project is a nonprofit news outlet based at Denison University on a mission to tell the important and interesting stories about people and places in and around Licking County. Jack Shuler is a professor and chair of the Journalism program at Denison University. Julia Lerner is managing editor of The Reporting Project and teaches in Denison’s Journalism program. Classic Film Screening: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington Sunday, June 7 2:30–4:30 PM Celebrate America’s 250 with a viewing of this 1939 classic starring Jimmy Stewart and Jean Arthur. Popcorn provided. Infinite Earths! How Comics and Logic Map the Multiverse with Sam Cowling Tuesday, June 16 7–8:00 PM Stories with alternate timelines abound in films and TV. This talk explores parts of these parallel histories and the challenges that arise when we start to tell stories that cross the multiverse. Sam Cowling is Professor of Philosophy at Denison University, and the author of Abstract Entities and Philosophy of Comics. As a philosopher, he has written about the existence of possible worlds, the meaning of speech balloons, and the relationship between truth and simplicity. A product of the Canadian west coast, he is now an avid enthusiast of Ohio’s rich comics history. Adult Programs Teens are welcome to attend these programs.
