3 What is Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio? Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio mails kids one free book each month until his or her 5th birthday. Any child in Ohio between birth and age 5 is eligible for the program, which is available at no cost to families. Who do I contact for questions regarding this program? Community LEGO Build Contest Drop off: December 2 to December 4 Children’s Department Vote: Saturday, December 7 11:00 AM–6:00 PM Enter your creative LEGO creation! Entries will be on display during the Animal Ice-capades LEGO show on December 7. Attendees can vote for their favorite People’s Choice creation. Three prizes will be awarded: 1) Kids up to Grade 6; 2) Grades 7 to Adult; and 3) A random drawing winner. Entries must fit into a 12”x12” space. Pick up entries on Dec. 9, 10, and 11. Craft Supply Swap Collection: February 1 to February 7 Children’s Department Swap: Saturday, February 8 9–11:00 AM | Community Room Do you have a backlog of craft supplies you are looking to donate? Join us in swapping craft supplies with fellow community crafters! We will be collecting donated craft supplies in the Children’s Department the week before the program. Those who donate will get early entry to the swap from 9–9:30 AM. The swap will be open to everyone starting at 9:30 AM. Calm Coloring and Cocoa Saturday, January 4 10:00 AM–5:00 PM Spend a quiet Saturday at the library with mindful coloring pages and hot cocoa. Build a brushbot and decorate it as either a grandma or reindeer before sending it into battle. Only one person needs to register for the entire family. Noon Year’s Eve Eve Party Monday, December 30 11:15 AM–12:45 PM Families (Kids of All Ages) We’ll make party hats, noise makers, and cut confetti in preparation for the countdown to noon. Stick around after the clock strikes noon for games. JANUARY Pop Culture Trivia Night Friday, January 3 5:45–7:00 PM Grades 4 to 6 Test your knowledge against that of your opponents. A smartphone or tablet with Wi-Fi connectivity is required to play. Snacks provided. No grown-ups admitted in the building during this after-hours program. Registration Required STEM Snowflake Challenge Saturday, January 11 2–3:00 PM, Drop-in Grades K to 6 Level up at each station, creating increasingly more complex snowflake patterns using toothpicks and mini-marshmallows. Carolyn Hamstead, will teach basic yoga poses and myriad benefits of yoga. Plus, you’ll leave super-relaxed! Carolyn has been practicing yoga for 35 years and teaching for 14 years. She has an E-RYT-200 certification from the Yoga Alliance of North America and a 125-hour certification from YogaUOnline as a Yoga Wellness Educator. She’s also a registered nurse. If possible, participants should bring their own yoga mat and a yoga strap or 6-ft. long scarf/necktie. Arrive by 6:20 PM to sign a liability waiver and set up your mat. Class will begin at 6:30 PM. Generative AI Explained— Benefits, Challenges, and Ethical Considerations Thursday, February 6 7–8:00 PM Denison Professor Lew Ludwig will provide an overview of generative AI and its transformative potential in education and beyond. We’ll also discuss ethical considerations, including privacy and bias, highlighting AI’s impact on society. From carbon capture and storage methods to the manipulation of the amount of solar radiation reaching the Earth, we’ll discuss the technical and economic feasibility and challenges of geoengineering. Dr. Quentin Hedges Duroy is a Professor of Economics and the current director of the International Studies program at Denison University.
